Ok, I have to admit that this article pisses me off just a little. The writer is bemoaning that our society is rights-based rather than responsibility-based, and cites an example where police are trying to get a "terror suspect" to strip and come out in his underpants. Eventually the police had to bring the man out by force and he was taken away. But his first response to the police was so deliciously relevant. He shouted it from the balcony. "I have rights," he screamed. "I have rights."
There we have it. Rights. Even for a man who is suspected of trying to murder innocent people and create panic and terror. Well... yeah! Just because I suspect someone of being a terrorist doesn't mean I can treat them however I want! Nor can the government, that's the whole goddamn point of rights, a system based on the rule of law and "innocent until proven guilty" - good lord, and this is coming from a Canadian. Come on down to America, we'll show you how great it is to give up your rights in the war on terror. You'll just have a grand ol' time in gitmo, my friend - why should we have to prove you're a terrorist? You're not one of them dirty commies what believes in "rights," are ya?
On a lighter note, fark linked a list of klingon fairy-tales, including such gems as "Goldilocks Dies With Honor at the Hands of the Three Bears" and "The Hare Foolishly Lowers His Guard and Is Devastated by the Tortoise, Whose Prowess in Battle Attracts Many Desirable Mates".
