Rights and Klingons
Ok, I have to admit that this article pisses me off just a little. The writer is bemoaning that our society is rights-based rather than responsibility-based, and cites an example where police are trying to get a "terror suspect" to strip and come out in his underpants.
Eventually the police had to bring the man out by force and he was taken away. But his first response to the police was so deliciously relevant. He shouted it from the balcony. "I have rights," he screamed. "I have rights."

There we have it. Rights. Even for a man who is suspected of trying to murder innocent people and create panic and terror.
Well... yeah! Just because I suspect someone of being a terrorist doesn't mean I can treat them however I want! Nor can the government, that's the whole goddamn point of rights, a system based on the rule of law and "innocent until proven guilty" - good lord, and this is coming from a Canadian. Come on down to America, we'll show you how great it is to give up your rights in the war on terror. You'll just have a grand ol' time in gitmo, my friend - why should we have to prove you're a terrorist? You're not one of them dirty commies what believes in "rights," are ya?

On a lighter note, fark linked a list of klingon fairy-tales, including such gems as "Goldilocks Dies With Honor at the Hands of the Three Bears" and "The Hare Foolishly Lowers His Guard and Is Devastated by the Tortoise, Whose Prowess in Battle Attracts Many Desirable Mates".

hey, i'm just letting you know that i'm just looking for some intellectual sport and something to keep my mind entertained with that hooters post. I do not wish to insult you or make this personal or anything like that. In fact I am only having fun with this because I do respect you.

That's cool, a little ad hominem never hurt anybody (except for that guy I set on fire after he said something disparraging about my mother's virtue). I certainly enjoy a good debate, and in all seriousness, I don't take offence at things very easily. A debate is a fun time and a learning experience rolled into one, and the worthier the adversary, the better (although arguing with a creationist or something is, from time to time, hilarious).

I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE SHOT SIX TIMES IN THE HEAD BY THE BRITISH POLICE FOR BEING SUSPECTED A TERRORIST WHEN THEY COULD BLOODY WELL HAVE TIED ME UP AND DRAGGED ME TO JAIL FOR QUESTIONING. DAMN THIS JACKET.

(what was that about rights?)
